The Zambian Kwacha is to be rebased, three zeros are to be knocked off and to become ZMW. The currency is currently ZMK (ZaMbian Kwacha) and will be changed to ZMW (ZaMbian kWacha). The rebasing exercise is due to start on 1 January 2013. On 31 December 2012 there will be a public holiday to allow the banks to prepare.
