Zumindest wurde ein großer Haufen Holz abgeladen - jetzt muss sich noch jemand finden, der daraus ne Brücke baut 😄 😄 😄 . Aber ich bleibe optimistisch .... und bin natürlich auch gespannt auf die Baufortschritte!

Am 8. 4. lag viel gutes Holz ruhig in der Nähe der kaputten 4th bridge und tat nichts. Sah so aus, als läge es schon länger dort. Uns wurde erzählt, dass man erst dann mit dem Brückenbau beginnen könne, wenn das Wasser verschwunden sei. Das kann bei den momentanen Wassermengen dort überall noch lange dauern.

CRIMINALS ATTACK, ROB TOURISTS AT GWETA LODGE
Gweta police are on a hunt for criminals who attacked and robbed tourists at Gweta Lodge in the early hours of Wednesday.
In an interview, yesterday, Gweta Police Station Commander, Superintendent Godfrey Mafa said about five rooms were broken into and guests were attacked in their sleep.
He said the victims were two German couples aged between 55 and 65, a South African national aged 30 and a Motswana man aged 41.
Superintendent Mafa said the robbers allegedly used wooden sticks to beat up the victims and thereafter, tied them up with ropes.
He said in one of the couples’ rooms, the thieves stole a camera worth 1000 Euros, while in another, they stole 350 Euros in cash and two Samsung mobile phones worth 300 Euros each.
He said a male German guest sustained injuries on his left hand, while trying to help the elderly couple from the criminals.
Superintendent Mafa further said the 30-year-old South African man lost a laptop and mobile phone worth P6 000 and P3 000 respectively, together with R600 in cash, while the Motswana man lost a cellphone and P890 cash.
The Station Commander said investigations were ongoing and they had not yet arrested anyone.
He said they had however, reinforced efforts to track down the perpetrators, who are suspected to be the locals, as they allegedly spoke fluent Setswana, though they had their faces fully covered.
He said there was a similar incident at the facility sometime in 2018, and they managed to bring the culprits to book, hence he was confident they would make arrests in this case as well. BOPA

The gum poles have arrived as previously stated.
The logistics of getting all the material and equipment to Third Bridge is enormous.
With pledges from the private sector most of the materials needed have been sourced. But more still needs to be bought.
The Bridge Building Staff will arrive shortly to start the enormous task of rebuilding.
If you look at the photo's below (auf denen sieht man nicht viel..) you will see just how great the task ahead is.

Ich habe das schon an anderer Stelle (ich meine, auch von ihr) gelesen und bin doch etwas verwundert, dass die Reparatur teilweise über private Spenden finanziert wird oder werden soll 🤨 . Wobei ich jetzt nicht weiß, ob Safari-Unternehmen oder tatsächlich Privatleute angesprochen werden. Vielleicht weiß ja jemand mehr darüber?

Es gibt mal wieder ein Third-Bridge-Up-Date von Stella Stewart (Gruppe "Moremi Game Reserve Sightings"/Facebook):

Third Bridge Update.
This past week has been a hive of activity with materials arriving and final assessments being carried out.
The present location of the bridge is far to deep.
So a bridge is going to be constructed to the left of the present bridge.
The water is shallow here.
Wire meshing has to be installed to form a cage to keep the Crocodiles out.
Hopefully the angry hippo's will stay away.
Today the team has arrived.
The new bridge is going to be longer so more gum poles etc will be needed.
Please in box me if you are able to make a monetary pledge, and I'll direct you to the correct person in charge. Lot's of materials are still needed to complete the job.

Hier mal ein paar Fotos zum Baufortschritt von Third Bridge (Fotoerlaubnis liegt vor).
Das erste Foto ist vom 17. Mai, das letzte (rechts), wo alle Pfähle gesetzt sind, von gestern.

Man hofft, dass die Brücke Ende Juni fertig wird, oder im Juli, für August ist man sich ziemlich sicher.

Liebste Bele,

da klinke ich mich auch mal rasch in den Thread mit ein. Irgendwie rückt unsere Botswana-Reise im September jetzt plötzlich so nah. Heute kamen die Vouchers von Botswana Footprints per DHL-Express... Nachdem wir das Unterfangen 2x verschoben haben, war es bisher noch so unwirklich.
Der Neubau dieser Brücke scheint ja doch von Belang für uns zu sein... 🤩

Die Brücke macht auf jeden Fall Fortschritte, aber wann sie fertig ist, ist noch unklar. Und - wie Chrigu schon schrieb - wie lange sie hält auch 😄 .

Also Ende Juni, was ja mal der ursprüngliche Plan war, halte ich für etwas ambitioniert.

Das letzte Foto ist etwa eine Woche alt, das erste am neuesten, da sind die mittleren Pfosten im Wasser auch schon gesetzt.

Das mit den Kontakten ist kein Hexenwerk und hat auch momentan nichts mit meinen echten Bekannten in Botswana zu tun, sondern sie stammen aus diversen Facebookgruppen. Mit Stella (siehe das Zitat eine Seite weiter vorne) schreibe ich ab und zu, und die anderen frage ich einfach wegen der Fotos, bzw. sie fragt sie, je nachdem.

Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority informs the general public that the retail pump prices for petrol and diesel will be adjusted as follows:
a) retail pump price of unleaded petrol 93 be increased by 193 thebe per litre;
b) retail pump price of unleaded petrol 95 be increased by 204 thebe per litre;
c) retail pump price of diesel 50 ppm be increased by 128 thebe per litre; and
d) retail pump price of illuminating paraffin be increased by 367 thebe per litre.

The bridge rebuild is in its final stages.
Just awaiting the final gumpoles, nuts and bolts to finish.

ALL BORDERS TO RE-OPEN THIS MONTH
All border posts that were closed to curb the spread of COVID-19, will be opened this month.
“The re-opening of border posts is a matter that involves Botswana and the neighbouring countries.
Consultations are ongoing among the border agencies and neighbouring countries and the plan is to open all the border posts, including Dobe, before the end of July 2022,” said Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Ms Anna Mokgethi.
She was responding to a question from Ngami MP, Mr Kainangura Hikuama, who had asked for an update on the state of the closed borders, in particular Dobe.
He also wanted to know about plans for re-opening and whether there were pending issues to be resolved. BOPA

diesmal wirklich... oder so wie letzte Woche, als es bereits berichtet wurde?! 😉 Diesmal hat die SA High Commission in Gaborone nichts offizielles gepostet (anders als vor 9 Tagen).

Nachdem man sich in den letzten Tagen ja gegenseitig die Schuld in die Schuhe geschoben hat,
wer geöffnet hätte, und wessen "border posts" noch nicht "ready" waren,
