das habe ich gerade in der Kgalagadi Facebook Gruppe gelesen:
KGALAGADI - MABUA - MOREMI
I am sure many members of this forum travel to these places on their trips . In June we (2 couples, 2 vehicles) went from Mata Mata, via Rooiputs, and Mabua to Moremi for a week. First night at South Gate we were the only ones camping. Kwalati safaris run this camp - shocking! Totally disinterested in guests, ablutions run down, broken cisterns, no lights etc.
Worse to come. That night at about 1 a.m. One car alarm when off. Thinking nothing of it my friend switched it off via the remote. 10 minutes later it went off again, and when he emerged rom his tent, he was hit over the head with a blunt object. He shouted to me for help but by the time I got up to check there was no-one around. Car doors were opened and ammo boxes moves and opened. Both vehicles were locked except he had left a small opening for ventilation for the fridge, which was obviously how they opened the doors. The next morning early we checked around the tents and found 3 sets of different foot prints. Storage boxes on the roof racks had been opened (fortunately empty) and everything appeared to have been searched.
The scary part was seeing a parks official looking around for prints near the ablutions and on the path to the staff compound. This BEFORE we had reported the incidence. He apparently had heard the car alarm and assumed the worst as it had apparently occurred on previous occasions hat vehicles had been broken into. This in a so-called secure game reserve??
It was duly reported, statements taken and even the Maun police arrived to investigate. Yet we have heard absolutely nothing since.
To all visitors to South Gate, Moremi, be extremely vigilant and lock everything away, for your own safety. ( the local hyena is much safer that the two legged thieves!)
Kwalati Safaries were totally unconcerned and couldn't be bothered about the incident. I have reported it to the Botswana DWNP, but no response has been received either.
In contrast, 3rd Bridge and Nxai Pan South Camp, run by the Xomae Group were a complete revelation. Clean, functional, and exceptional friendly staff. No wonder they are always fully booked.
But please, think twice when you go to Moremi and be very vigilant and careful.
