Diesen August waren die Pfeiler gut zu sehen vom Zollhaus in Kasane aus, aber ob das reicht bis März 19...

Hi zusammen,

spannend an dem Projekt ist, dass man Simbabwe im März 2018 mit an Bord geholt hat. Auf der Brücke soll ein gemeinsamer Grenzübergang aller 3 Staaten eingerichtet werden. Das ist auch touristisch dann nicht uninteressant. Und Namibia freut sich auch, denn damit werden die Transportwege zu den Trockenhäfen von Botswana, Sambia und Simbabwe in Walvis Bay verbessert.

März 2019 halte ich für sehr optimistisch. Wir waren am 1. September dort - anbei zwei Fotos, die Renate gemacht hat.
Die komplette Brücke, die man sieht, ist nur für die Anlieferung der Arbeiter und Materialien - ansonsten ist nur der eine oder andere Pfeiler im Bau, mehr nicht. Für mein Gefühl fehlt da noch sehr viel.... Wir haben auch die neuen Abfertigungsgebäude gesehen - das sind nackte Betongerippe bisher. Auch die Zufahrten sind noch riesige Baustellen... Bin aber natürlich keine Brückenbauspezialistin - vielleicht ist der Rest ja nur noch ein Klacks.

Hmmm…. Also aufgrund eines sehr großen Schulprojektes (an einer internationalen Schule in Malawi) hat eines unserer Kinder Anfang des Jahres sehr viel zu Botswana recherchiert. Er und ich haben uns ausführlich mit dem Kazungula-Brücken-Projekt beschäftigt.
Anfang April waren wir dann selber dort.

Das Bild hier sieht nicht so viel anders aus wir im April.
Ich hatte schon damals Zweifel, ob sie wirklich bis Ende (!!!!) 2019 fertig sein wird (war damals laut diverser Quellen vorausgesagt), da wie hier auch andere schon bemerkten, die Brücke, die man sieht, nur die "Versorgungsbrücke" ist, von der aus der Bau der "Richtigen" Brücke dann laufen soll. Und: es soll ja neben Autos auch ein Eisenbahnbrücke werden. Also, da haben sie meiner Ansicht nach noch ganz schön was vor sich....

Wenn die im März 2019 fertig sein soll, müssen sie sicher mehr als den Turbo einschalten…..

Die Info über Simbabwe finde ich ja verwunderlich! Hat Simbabwe sich da eine gute Strategie ausgedacht? Denn von allem, was ich gelesen habe, auch über all die geschichtlichen Hintergründe und Entwicklungen, hat Simbabwe immer gestänkert, dass die Fähren durch ihr Hoheitsgebiet verkehren. Und DESHLAB wird dieses neue MegaProjekt auch noch in einem großen Bogen gebaut (was ja viel umständlicher und teurer ist): damit die Grenze von Simbabwe nicht verletzt wird! Und jetzt reihen sie sich plötzlich mit ein?
Na, mir soll's egal sein. Und möglicherweise bin ich trotz ausführlicher Recherchen schlecht informiert, aber sonderbar finde ich das allemal!

Für alle Reisenden jedenfalls: wer sich erst mal weiterhin auf eine (eigentlich recht nette!) Fährfahrt gefasst macht, wird jedenfalls nicht enttäuscht! 😉

DIVERSION OF TRAFFIC BETWEEN THE BOTSWANA BORDER POST, KAZUNGULA AND THE LANDING BAY ON THE ZAMBEZI RIVER

The General Public is hereby informed that the road from the Botswana Border Post to the Pontoon landing bay on the Zambezi River will be closed on 23rd December 2018. This is to facilitate the ongoing construction of the Kazungula Bridge Access Ramp. Therefore, as from 24th December 2018, all traffic will be required to use the detour road. The detour will be in use until the Kazungula Bridge is completed and opened to traffic.

The detour will require traversing under a section of the new Bridge with a vertical clearance of 6.0m (between the road and the soffit of the Deck). In light of this, high vehicles or those carrying high loads are advised to plan their routes accordingly. Further control measures will be implemented with respect to the number of vehicles within the detour as and when required.

It is advisable that the pedestrians and traffic using the detour approach the area bearing in mind construction activities are in progress. The public is to note that construction traffic has the right-of-way in the area. Furthermore, the public is urged to adhere to the installed signage and to fully cooperate with the flag persons situated along the detour to ensure safe and efficient flow.

Construction activities occurring adjacent to the detour will include earthworks and bridgeworks. These activities necessitate the utilization of earthmoving equipment that must operate within a barricaded area for the public’s safety. Consequently, all road users are encouraged to remain within the defined pathway as directed by the flag persons.

KAZUNGULA BRIDGE DELAYS BY TEN MONTHS

Completion of the Kazungla Bridge project, initially set for August, is now expected in June next year.

Briefing the Chobe leadership recently, following suspension of work by contractor Daewoo Engineering and Construction, consultants team leader Mr Kobamelo Kgoboko said construction was suspended March 1-10 as well as last week due to late payments.

He said progress was currently at 75.62 per cent as opposed to the planned 86 per cent due to a number of challenges such as suspension of work, slow rate of work and failure to maintain the seven day casting cycle for deck segment.

Other components of the project, he said, the Botswana One Stop Border Post and the Zambian one were currently at 95.9 per cent against the planned 96.8 per cent and 59.86 per cent compared to the revised planned progress of 78.36 per cent respectively.

He explained that the expected completion date for the Botswana post was June instead of May while the Zambian one was anticipated to be complete by December.

Mr Kgoboko said mitigation measures to avoid further delays included encouraging the client, the Botswana and Zambian governments, to pay the contractor promptly and advising the contractor to reduce the cycle time.

For his part, project manager Mr Pius Seone expressed optimism that work at the site would resume soon as the processing of payments on the Zambian side had started.

Mr Seone said he was optimistic that while work was suspended last week as a result of delayed payments, the issue would be promptly addressed.

Chobe MP and also Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Machana Shamukuni stressed the importance of the project noting that it had created employment.

After completion, he said, it would reduce transit time for freight and passengers, boost the regional economy and even increase global competitiveness of goods from Botswana and Zambia due to reduced time-based trade and transport costs.

Mr Shamukuni said as the district leadership, they found it fit to get first-hand information on the suspension of work at the site.

He, however, clarified that Botswana was up-to-date in terms of payments its partner was still lagging behind.

Mr Shamukuni informed his audience that the Minister of Transport and Communications Ms Dorcas Makgato, in her updates to Parliament, had assured legislators that everything would revert to track.

He said he had no doubt that the issue of late payment would be resolved and work at the site would resume.

Mr Shamukuni implored the district leadership to assure Batswana that all was not lost and that despite the challenges, the bridge would become a reality.

Plateau acting court president, Kgosi Tshegofatso Samoka thanked the team for the update and urged them to keep the employees abreast of developments to avoid confusion.

Plateau Ward councillor, Mr Boitumelo Kanyetu expressed concern that the issue of houses that cracked as a result of the project had been pending for a long time.

In response Mr Seone concurred that the issue had delayed and promised that residents would be called for an update soon. (BOPA)

Dem ist so.
Waren auch paarmal mit dieser Fähre unterwegs. Wenn es auch oft mühsam war, mit der Warterei & den " guten Helfer & Gehilfen" welche umher stöberten, war es doch immer ein spezielles Ereignis 😉

50. Mr. Chairman, I am pleased to report that my Ministry has completed one of the flagship projects in this country, the Kazungula Bridge Project, which was developed in partnership with the Republic of Zambia. The Project had three components: the bridge (Package 1), the One Stop Border Post (OSBP) on Botswana side (Package 2) and OSBP on the Zambian side (Package 3). The handover of these three packages was on 05th September 2020, 28th October 2020 and 17th October 2020, respectively. The two countries are currently finalizing the bilateral agreement to operationalize the One Stop Border Post. Border agencies have proposed to start utilizing the Bridge on the 01st April 2021 and expects to start earning tolls, pending signature of OSBP Bilateral Agreement and gazzetting of the OSBP.
