Himba village marks the start of cultural villages in Swakopmund
SWAKOPMUND, 05 MAR (NAMPA) – An OvaHimba cultural village opened in Swakopmund towards the end of last year, will soon be followed by other cultural villages, Erongo Regional Governor Cleophas Mutjavikua said.
He was speaking to Nampa in an interview on Monday regarding the operations of the OvaHimba village.
Other cultural villages planned for the next two financial years are Damara, Nama and Oshindonga, he said.
The OvaHimba village is sponsored by Namsov Community Trust through Mutjavikua’s office and is located next to the Martin Luther Museum at the entrance of Swakopmund, along the road leading to Arandis.
Mutjavikua said at the moment, the man put in charge of the village is collecting all the necessary items such as traditional medicines, garments and tools before starting operations fully in the next few months.
He explained that the aim is to provide a platform where tourists and locals can witness and experience the unique Himba culture and customs, as well as cultures from other tribes in Namibia.
“Our aim is to have a variety of tourism activities for visitors to this town. This is crucial, because instead off people travelling all the way to Opuwo to witness this culture, those who wish not to go there can just come here where it is near.”
The governor further said tours will be offered where all aspects of the Himba, Damara, Nama and Oshindonga cultures will be explained.
“Traditional crafts, food, dancing and singing will be offered at all the traditional facilities,” Mutjavikua said.
Apart from the village, more than 10 OvaHimba women have been selling traditional crafts in Swakopmund at the park next to Strand Hotel for almost four years now.

nee, von der US-amerikanischen Entwicklungshilfe. Die Stadt Swakopmund wollte es - zumindest an dem Standort - nie haben.

was ebenfalls so ein sagenhafte Erfolg ist

aber das Restaurant vor Ort ist gut 🙂

"In zwei Tagen erhält Namibia ein weiteres nationales Museum. Dies teilte die Museums Association of Namibia MAN in einer gemeinsamen Erklärung mit der EU-Delegation für Namibia und dem Kulturministerium mit. Das „Museum of Namibian Music“ MuNaMu werde am Donnerstag in Omuthiya, der Hauptstadt der Region Oshikoto eröffnet. Die Entwicklung des Musikmuseums habe mehrere Jahre gedauert und sei auch von einem öffentlichen Aufruf begleitet gewesen, zum Thema Musik in und aus Namibia, Gegenstände zu spenden. Die Eröffnung findet virtuell statt und soll in den Sozialen Medien live übertragen werden." (Hitradio Namibia, 16.3.2021)
