Etosha Westgate privat befahrbar?

Hallo,

ist das Etosha Westgate privat befahrbar im August 2010? Kann man man von West nach Ost durchfahren auf eigene Faust?

Falls ja wo kann man gut beim Westgate auf einer Lodge übernachten?

Travel News - Industry News - Western entrance gate and new NWR lodge for Etosha planned

A fourth public entrance gate into the Etosha National Park will open up the western section of the park for the public for the first time and a fifth NWR lodge will be developed in the area to provide for an expected increase in the number of visitors. Currently the 22 000-km2 park provides only 482 beds.

Most of the tourism development in the past was concentrated around the pan where Namibia Wildlife Resorts, the tourism arm of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, currently runs four lodges. By opening up the western section, a link will be created between the Skeleton Coast Park in the Kunene Region and Etosha, the biggest tourist attraction in Namibia. This new route will encourage tourism traffic through communities bordering on that side of the park, resulting in growth and developmental benefits.

Tenders for the development of the new NWR lodge were solicited and it is expected that construction will be completed by the start of the 2010 peak season. The Dolomite Zebra Camp, as it is expected to be called, will be the second facility developed inside the park using environmentally friendly approaches, whilst offering a more exclusive experience for fewer guests. The 30-bed exclusive Onkoshi Camp, built on the edge of the pan and opened in September 2008, was the first such facility in the park.

The Dolomite Zebra Camp is one of a series of new lodges planned by NWR inside national parks, using natural materials to build semi-permanent structures that blend with the environment. These lodges will be developed in an environmentally responsible way, using renewable solar energy, careful water management and doing minimum damage to the natural surroundings.

Sehr geehrter Niccos

für Individualreisende wird die Etosha Westroute als reine Transitroute vom Galton Gate nach Okaukuejo im 1. Quartal 2014 geöffnet.

es besteht für mich kein Grund Deine Aussage zu bezweifeln! Aber die Frage, die ich mir stelle ist, was soll damit von der offiziellen Seite bezweckt werden, da eine "Transitroute" vom Galton Gate nach Okaukuejo auf dem kürzesten Weg doch an den meisten und interessantesten Wasserlöchern vorbeiführt? Siehe Karte. Ich muss bei auftretendem Wild sowieso stoppen?

Hi Mike,

so wie ich das MET ursprünglich (unabhängig von den neuen Informationen durch Carsten) verstanden habe bedeutet Transitstrecke, dass Du diese befahren darfst - nur in eine Richtung, sozusagen als Einbahnstraße - jedoch eben nicht an die Wasserlöcher, die ja nicht genau an der Straße liegen (sondern häufig einige hundert Meter davon entfernt), fahren darfst. Diese sind dann z.B. Sonderpermitpflichtig bzw. dürfen nur mit Guide etc. (je nachdem wie sich das MET entscheidet) angefahren werden. Natürlich siehst Du aber alles was links und rechts an "Getier" herum steht.
