The Department of Meteorological Services (DMS) has reviewed the state of the global climate
systems and analyzed the rainfall and temperature prospects for the upcoming rainfall season,
which starts in October 2022 and ends in March 2023.
During the first half of the season, from October to December 2022, most of the country with the
exception of southwest, expects to receive normal to above normal rainfall. Kgalagadi District is
expected to receive normal to below normal rainfall. Temperatures for this period are expected
to be normal to below.
During the second half of the season, from January to March 2023, the northern parts of
Botswana (East of Ngamiland, Northern Central and Chobe Districts) will receive above normal
rainfall with the remaining districts to receive normal to above rainfall. Temperatures will be
normal to with a tendency to below over most areas.
Generally a moderately wet season is expected countrywide with the upcoming season being
similar to the previous one, however the without prolonged dry spells.
