shopping ?

Hello everybody,

I have a bit unusual question 🤩 🙁 but maybe useful for some others who are going to travel in Namibia on self- driving and self-cooking basis for the first time, too . We know that buying of fresh food and vegetable is not possible everywhere. So I'm interested how did you "namibian profis" usualy managed that part of your yourney? Is there available any sort of "list of shops" (like it is the list of camping places) on the forum?

Es gibt ja sehr unnterschiedliche Früchte und Gemüse. Einiges hält sich recht gut anderes geht im heissen Auto schnell kaput. Wenn wir Einkaufen, versuchen wir für einige Tage Waren zu haben die länger gut bleiben. Z.B. Kürbis, Kartoffeln, Zitrusfrüchte und auch Passionsfrucht. Pflaumen, Trauben oder Salat kaufen wir auch wenn es erhältlich ist, das wird aber recht schnell gegessen.

First welcome to our forum. To answer your questions:
- there is no list of shops available. However in every large city, you will find suitable shopping for food. In small villages, you might find markets and small groceries. Interesting to know that in petrol stations, you often find groceries similar to Europe.
- when you shop, buy products that keep a few days (potatoes, carotts, plums, passion fruits...). Dry fruits like mangos, apricots keep for a long time and are delicious. You will find them in supermarkets. If you can carry an icebox with adequate icebodies, it would be also a big help.. You can refreeze the icebodies in certain camps.

Thank you all for your information.
If I make a resume than buying of the food for let say a next three days will be quite sufficient. We will have a small refrigirator in a car, so keeping it in cool will be no problem.
What about the meat? Can you buy it in every store even in small villages? And there is one question more- how about the prices ? Are they similar to european or are they lower?B)

Hi Bibka,

you can buy meat in the (larger) supermarkets but not in every village, however, you could just ask a local farmer to buy some meat from him/her.

The general prices are approx. 2/3 to 75% of German prices (depending on place and kind of food), some much more expensive, some a lot cheaper.
