Also nicht wundern, wenn z. B. Buchungsanfrage per eMail nicht beantwortet werden. Hier in Namibia geht praktisch nur noch MTC. Über Telecom etc erreicht man kaum etwas.

Betrifft hauptsächlich Openserve von Telkom und von '(Fast) kompletter Internetausfall' kann keine Rede sein. Steht auch nicht im Artikel so.

The impact is that customers that are connected to Openserve’s global capacity clients are experiencing reduced Internet speeds, the company said.

Vodacom und andere sind ja auch noch da. Online Banking funktioniert problemlos, wie auch andere Seiten, inklusive Namibia Forum 😛 .
Habe noch keinen Ausfall oder Speedverlust wahrgenommen.

"Die Internetverbindungen in Namibia ist seit gestern Mittag massiv beeinträchtigt. Dies berichteten zahlreiche Hörer aus vielen Landesteilen gegenüber Hitradio Namibia. Die Verbindungen zu den Unterseekabeln WACS und Sat-3 sind bei Gabun bzw. Angola gleichzeitig beschädigt worden. Über diese Verbindung bauen die meisten Anbieter bzw. Endkunden ihre Internetverbindungen auf. Derzeit liegen sehr langsamen Verbindungen vor, wobei einige Websites gar nicht aufrufbar sind."

Hi zusammen,

gerade Feedback von einem Freund bekommen, der in Angola ist. Dort seit fast 24 Stunden gar kein Internet mehr. Auch Simbabwe soll wohl betroffen sein, wobei die scheinbar auch noch an Kabel im Indischen Ozean angeschlossen sind.

Probleme können noch länger andauern. Hier etwas aktuelles dazu.
"Local problems with slow internet speeds probably won't end soon: another breakdown has hit one of the two key undersea cables that connect South Africa to the global internet.

In a freak occurrence, both of undersea cables are out of action due to separate failures – resulting in very slow internet speeds for some users since Thursday.

The South Atlantic 3/West Africa (SAT-3/Wasc) submarine cable, which links Portugal and Spain to South Africa, with connections to several West African countries along the way, has apparently been hit by a breakdown near Gabon.

Meanwhile the West Africa Cable System (Wacs), which links South Africa with the United Kingdom, also along the west coast of Africa, saw an outage off the coast of Congo.

But now, a second break has reportedly been found on Wacs - close to the UK.

According to a notification received by the Tertiary Education and Research Network of South Africa (TENET), that operates the SANReN network connecting the internet to South African universities, a second break in Wacs has been found – this time near the United Kingdom side.

“We hope to receive clarity on the end-to-end problem in the next few hours as previous reports indicated issues in the Congo area. This outage appears to have multiple problems,” it stated on its Twitter account.

IT engineers told BI SA that the SAT-3/Wasc cable may be physically broken at one point, with a number of different faults at other positions along the way.

Some local internet service providers are diverting traffic through another undersea cable, SEACOM/EASSy, which runs alongside the eastern coast of Africa. This is ensuring that South Africans can still access the internet, but it is also putting pressure on the SEACOM cable, causing slower internet traffic.

It is unclear when the Western African cables will be fully operational again. Customers of Telkom's Openserve, Axxess and Afrihost are among those affected."

Hi,

wir sind im Moment in Swakopmund/Mondesa bei der Familie meiner Frau.

Über ein Tag ging absolut nichts, dann hat FB teilweise über Ipad und Iphone funktioniert, Notebook nicht.

Langsam funktioniert es wieder aber wir haben immer wieder Aussetzer.

In Windhoek in der Stadt sowie am Flughafen funktioniert(e) der Zugang über Hotspots problemlos, gestern wie heute.
Von Buitepos kommend nach Windhoek hat gestern MTC auch bei Netzabdeckung störungsfrei funktioniert.

Hi,

laut AZ wurden 2 Unterseekabel zerstört und dadurch der ganze südliche Teil Afrikas vom Netz genommen.

Jetzt wird der Datenverkehr über Ostafrika umgeleitet und es läuft alles wieder, nur langsamer...

Die AZ übertreibt. Es gibt ja auch zahlreiche andere englische Berichte dazu. Bei uns in Johannesburg lief alles normal. Keine Unterbrechungen.

das eine Spezialboot zur Reparatur des WACS soll heute, mit dreitägiger Verspätung (aufgrund des extremen Sturms in Kapstadt), verabschiedet werden. Es soll dann zunächst die Reparatur vor Angola vornehmen.

Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTC) informs its valued customers and the public that due to internet connectivity challenges experienced by our supplier BoFinet, some of our customers may be experiencing compromised internet service quality when accessing certain websites.

The internet connectivity challenges were caused by a double fibre cable break in the West Africa Cable System (WACS) and a cable break on a route into South Africa as communicated by BoFinet.

Customers may experience service degradation while our internet connectivity partner is working on stabilising services. BTC would like to apologise to its valued customers and the public for the inconvenience this may cause.

TN not affected by WACS break

Windhoek, 30 March 2019 – Telecom Namibia would like to confirm the break of the West African Cable System (WACS) cable around midnight on 27 March 2020. The break on the West Africa Cable System took place on a cable belonging to Tata Communications between Highbridge in the UK, and Seixal in Portugal.

Please note that this break in the submarine cable is not affecting internet connectivity for Telecom Namibia and its customers as alternative routes are in place to ensure uninterrupted continuation of internet services should the one route be affected. We have numerous points of presence (pops), one in Frankfurt, London, Cape Town and Johannesburg each and we will continue to enhance routing diversity to these pops to minimise loss of traffic in the event of failure on one route.

Therefore, this failure does thus not affect Telecom Namibia’s internet services and the services of its customers who directly receive internet connectivity from TN.

The repair ship is mobilized, and the estimated repair date is 04/04/2020. Further updates will be provided, as these become available.
