Loadshedding Update: 12 April 2023.
Following a breakdown of a generation unit at Medupi Power Station, Stage 6 loadshedding will continue until further notice. Eskom will provide an update as soon as any significant changes occur.

Kaum hat Ramaphosa seinen „electricity minister“ installiert, wird dieser gleich von den "alten Hasen" kompromisslos demontiert und kaltgestellt. Das lässt Ramaphosa blass ausschauen und zeigt wie hilflos er ist….. was nicht wirklich überraschend ist.

Das Gericht in Pretoria hat gestern befunden, dass öffentliche Gesundheitseinrichtungen, Schulen, und Polizeistationen,
künftig vom load shedding auszunehmen sind; für die Umsetzung hat es 60 Tage angesetzt.

Saturday, 6 May 2023: Due to a shortage of generating capacity, Stage 5 loadshedding will be implemented until further notice. This is necessary following the failure of five generating units; three from Medupi Power Station and two from Duvha Power Station. Three of these units have since been returned to service today. However, Eskom has had to rely extensively on emergency reserves which now need to be replenished before Monday. Eskom will publish a further update as soon as any significant changes occur.

When the government does not subsidise operations that don’t generate a commercial return, spending pressures build up, threatening to create a risk to the fiscus. gestern hat Eskom ihren Jahresbericht für das Finanzjahr 22/23 veröffentlicht

die "highlights":
Revenue increased to R259.5 billion due to 9.61% tariff increase, however negated by a 5% decline in sales volumes
Decline in EBITDA by R14.9 billion, from R53 billion in 2022 to R38 billion in 2023
Operating profit significantly declined to R5.6 billion from R20.9 billion.
The net loss after tax increased to R23.9 billion, double from the R11.9 billion incurred in 2022
Open-cycle gas turbines (OCGTs) spent increased twofold to R29.7 billion from R14.7 billion in 2022
Arrear municipal debt remains an area of concern and had accumulated to R58.5 billion by March 2023
Gross debt of R424 billion attracted debt servicing costs of R72 billion comprising capital repayments of R39 billion and interest payments of R33 billion
R21.9 billion equity support was received from the shareholder
The energy availability factor (EAF) continued to deteriorate, reaching a low of 56.03% from 62.02% in 2022, resulting in 280 days of loadshedding
Generation unplanned maintenance was at 31.92% (2022: 25.35%), however, planned maintenance remained acceptable at 10.39%
