NEWSLETTER SWAKOPMUND RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION Rowan van Dyk (Chairman) Dear Swakopmund Community,
First, we would like to apologise for the recent lack of communication. We faced several technical challenges that delayed our newsletters, but we’ve resolved the issues and are back on track! Expect regular updates going forward.
We’re also excited to announce future changes to the newsletter format. We aim to include more relevant and engaging content, and we welcome your feedback to make this the best resource for you.
PROJECT UPDATES TRAFFIC IN KRAMERSDORF The SRA has proposed a 4-way stop at the intersection of Sam Nujoma and Daniel Tjongarero streets in Kramersdorf. This measure is aimed at addressing traffic dangers and improving safety in the area.
The proposal was made to the Swakopmund Municipality, and we will keep you updated as events unfold.
TWO-LANE CONVERSION AT RAITH’s BAKERY We’ve suggested to the Municipality to convert Tobias Hainyeko Street, which runs past Raith’s Bakery, into two lanes to alleviate traffic congestion. The current three-lane setup creates confusion, as the motorists hog the centre lane and then dart left or right when they spot a parking space. This is not only a traffic hazard but is very frustrating to other motorists and we are confident that this change will provide a smoother traffic flow.
BEACH VANDALISM UPDATE
After reporting vandalism along the boardwalk between Platz Am Meer and the Mole, the SRA, in collaboration with Lanthorn LED and Erongo Red, has installed a new tamper-proof, cost-efficient light prototype. Negotiations are underway to expand this initiative across Swakopmund.
The Municipality has also begun to replace the dustbins with sturdier tamper-proof bins that are anchored onto concrete footers.
RAIL BYPASS PROPOSAL
For years, the SRA has strongly advocated for the establishment of a rail bypass for Swakopmund. This would ensure that all rail traffic not destined for Swakopmund is redirected away from passing through the existing rail wedge within the town.
The primary concern is the numerous level crossings and the increase in rail traffic carrying hazardous materials such as fuels, acids, and potential explosives, which pose a significant accident risk.
Thankfully, this proposal has now been approved.
Additionally, the SRA has submitted a proposal for the unused TransNamib property, located across from Fruit & Veg and extending toward the old goods shed, to be transferred to the Municipality.
Currently, this area is not only an eyesore but also hinders the development of our town.
While time will tell if we succeed in this effort, we remain determined and will not give up.
“DON’T GIVE CHANGE - MAKE A CHANGE” INITIATIVE
This initiative continues to grow as more collection boxes are placed in local businesses.
The funds collected go towards feeding and rehabilitating the homeless, helping them reintegrate into society.
To support this initiative, please refrain from giving directly to street-based individuals as the purpose of this initiative is to get them off the streets.
TARRING OF LIBERTINE AMATHILA & ANTON LUBOWSKI
Previously we reported that these two streets would be tarred. There have been delays in the tarring of Libertina Amathila and Anton Lubowski streets due to complications in the tender process, despite the Municipality approving the projects.
The tender has been re-advertised and we will keep you updated as the process moves forward.
BRANDING UPDATE
We are in the process of revamping our branding, including updates to our website and social media platforms.

UPDATE ON CAR GUARDS REGISTRATION
We are excited to announce that 46 car guards have been officially registered by the Municipality of Swakopmund and are now proudly equipped with new uniforms, generously provided by FNB Namibia. This morning, Chief of Traffic, Mr. Melvin Cloete, handed over the FNB-branded uniforms to the car guards, enhancing their visibility and professionalism.
As of today, all registered car guards will be dressed in these official uniforms. Please note: any car guard wearing yellow, red, or orange reflectors has not been vetted or registered by the Municipality and should not be allowed to operate in and around the CBD.
Thank you, FNB Namibia, for your impactful support in helping keep our streets safe!
