In Botswana at the moment, the police & BDF are going through an exercise of searching for items such as ivory/drugs etc - and they are doing this in the bush, and at all bush airstrips.
Tonnes of visitors were subject to lengthy searches at Seronga airstrip the other day and were not happy. A guide reported that they searched their mobile safari and guests in Savuti yesterday (they searched through every bag). They will probably be stopping self drive vehicles as well - so there may be a delay or two experienced on your holiday if you are coming this month!
I'm sure they will pack up the exercise soon once they are happy no one is carrying ivory.
