Die nächste Etappe ist der Yellowstone NP. Obschon wir etwa schon 12 Mal dort zu Besuch waren, ist der Park immer wieder neu und eindrücklich. Das negative ist dass die Infrastruktur kaum vergrössert wurde und es wird immer schwieriger die Massen Menschen zu befördern oder einen Parkplatz zu finden. Leider ist im YS fast immer Hauptsaison und man muss sehr vorzeitig Campingplätze reservieren. Wir haben vier Tage im Westen des Parks, im Madison CG gecampt und vier Tage in der Mitte, im Canyon CG.
Hier ein paar Bilder von unserem je ersten National Park der USA.
Es war Juni und hat wieder ein Schäumchen geschneit.




Grand Prismatic Spring

Ich füge noch meinen Tagebuch Eintrag hier rein, damit ihr lesen könnt was man im YS so erwarten kann.

Yellowstone: Madison, Norris, Canyon, and Lamar Valley areas
The next day it’s after the untimely snow and Yellowstone is green again, sunny but cold, with barely 45F.
Here is a series of impressions of our first few days in Yellowstone, the way we have experienced it.
Overlook over Grand Prismatic Spring: triple wow and we bike via back roads, a first. Later, seeing the most famous and most colorful spring up close and marveling at the different colors. Priceless.
Fairy Falls. Nice hike. The seniors are keeping active!
Buffalo! No, actually Bison, are everywhere. Grazing peacefully, or resting and chewing their cud while this year’s babies, called “red dogs” are sleeping, nursing, or playing. Wonderful experience to see these powerful animals in this iconic landscape....or surrounding our RV.
Not so great: buffalo gridlock and jams. Cars back up for miles while buffalo cross the road or leisurely walk on the road.
Norris Geyser Basin: always great to see many colorful springs and small geysers erupting.
Driving up Dunraven Pass: not easy with the RV, but a must do to see Black Bear and sweeping views of Tower and Roosevelt areas. We get a glimpse of two Black Bears sleeping in a pile. Cute!
And then...a very long and very memorable black bear sighting. This busy bear is following a brook just below where our RV is parked and we take pics standing in the door! Thank you, you nicer than the average bear!
Lamar Valley of Wolf fame: Wow, this to me is THE West personified. Wide meadows with the Lamar River running through it. Home to hundreds of buffalo and a few wolf packs. We see one black wolf through a scope and he is surrounded by about twenty buffalo while tearing into a red dog carcass. To our astonishment, they don’t trample the wolf. Pronghorns, the only American Antelope, are trotting close to the road. Five elk come running down a ridge in a panic, but we can’t see why. A bunch of very shaggy Big Horn sheep still wearing their winter coat, browse in a ditch by the road. Great for photography and we love client-friendly animals.
Hayden Valley: usually our favorite valley. This year, not so much. The breeding herd of buffalo have not arrived here yet and no prey means no grizzly. Elk are abundant at dusk, but far away across the river. Except one beautiful specimen. A young male is grazing by the side of the road, totally habituated to cars and humans and he passes by our RV, not 10 feet away. This is an unforgettable encounter. A coyote is on the hunt and is rousing up Canada geese at the river’s edge who under loud protesting honking flee and flutter to safety on the river. Later, an elk is pursuing the coyote which is running off with something dark in its mouth.
