Liebe Formis,
Hier ist die post die ich ans SA 4x4 Forum geschickt habe. Da ich denke dass euere Englisch Kenntnisse sicher so gut wie meine Deutsch Kenntnisse sind, lasse ich es mal auf English stehen.
Danke euch!

Hi Uganda experts and fellow self-drivers!

I’m trying to put together a self-drive route visiting the highlights of SW Uganda for the first time. After that, we will cross the border into Kenya and visit the Mara triangle and Reserve, also for the first time. Finally, we will drop off the car in Nairobi and pay a one-way fee. Lots of firsts this trip, including chimp and gorilla tracking.
I would greatly appreciate if you could critic my proposed route, time spent in each place, time spent driving from A to B, as well as the spots I have chosen to camp.
Specifically, I’m not sure if I should spend two nights in Lake Mburu, just one night, or leave it out all together seeing it has no lions and we will be spending a lot of time in the Mara.
Lake Bunyonyi looks so amazing in pics and I’m thinking of maybe adding a second night there and mostly to just relax and enjoy the view.
I’m trying to make this a rather relaxed trip with at least two or three nights camping in the same spot. This trip, we will be sleeping in a ground tent and forego our beloved roof top tent in favor of having a pop-up roof, specifically for ease of game viewing and photography.
I’m told Bwindi is a rather damp place so I have opted to spend two nights in a budget lodge there. There is a lodge located about 10 km from Buhoma village called Crested Crane Hotel and I’m wondering if it’s not better to sleep there, and drive the 10 km to the Gorilla Tracking Meeting Point, rather than spending the night in an over-priced budget Banda in Buhoma.
With the help of excellent trip reports by Wazungu Wawili, Ortelius, from the SA 4x4 Forum and botswanadreams, Topobär, Picco, and the Bradt Guide, I have tried to create my own version of a SW Uganda trip.
I’ll be happy to receive your tips and recommendations on how to make this trip the best it can be....although it won’t happen until August 2020.
Greetings from sunny Florida,
Katrin
