MET, MEDIA TOUR THE CHOBE NATIONAL PARK TOURISM SITES
Kasane, 16 May 2022.
As part of the inclusive governance strategy, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism invited the media on a tour of the Tourism sites in the Chobe National Park. This was one of the Ministry's efforts to demistify issues surrounding it's Deecongestion Strategy in the Chobe National Park which will see the opening up of 8 lodge sites within the Chobe National Park
The opening of these sites is earmarked to create opportunities for Batswana in the tourism sector.
Addressing the media this morning, the Minister of Environment and Tourism Hon. Philda Kereng highlighted that the main intention of Government is to open up opportunities for Batswana in the tourism sector, create employment and diversify product offer within the Park. She also mentioned that the strategy will help decongest the heavy traffic of tourists in one area and also save the river front as there will be a wide spread of tourism sites within the park.
Chobe National Park Manager Mr Mbututu Mbututu stated that 220 prospective Batswana companies conducted a site visit after the flighting of the expression of interest advert in February 2022. He further cited that only 72 bidders have since submitted their bids for consideration
Mr Mbututu informed the attendants that sites 1 to 3 were in the Serondela area, sites 4-5 in the Kabulabula are while sites 6-8 were in the Ihaha area.
