More than 20 elephants reportedly dead from unknown causes in Okavango panhandle.
The ministry has pointed it suspect anthrax but other veterinarians have ruled it out . There are also fears the elephants could be poisoned.
Post Mortem results are expected soon to determine cause of death while investigations continue.

SPOT ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Wildlife and National Parks in Seronga (Okavango-sub district) wishes to inform the general public that there are elephant mortalities recorded in the areas surrounding the villages of Seronga, Gunotsoga and Eretsha. Members of the public are urged to desist from ingesting meat from such carcasses since the animals are dying of unknown causes and this could be hazardous to their health. Therefore, the public is urged to immediately report any sightings of elephant carcasses to the following telephone numbers 6876823, 6876015 & 6876010 or the nearest Wildlife office, Police, BDF or Kgotla.

36 elephants carcasses counted in Okavango
A total of 36 dead elephants were counted so far in the Okavango panhandle. The elephants have died from an 'unknown cause' according to Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP.)
Yesterday by close of business 22 carcasses were reported. Today 14 more carcasses were reportedly found taking total to 36. Counting continues tomorrow.
Samples from the carcasses were taken on Wednesday for a postmortem. Its is not yet known when the results will be out.

Okavango Elephants death toll rise to 44
The death toll in the Okavango Panhandle elephants has risen to 44.
Yesterday 36 carcasses were counted from which 14 carcasses were discovered 40 kilometres from Seronga catchment villages, the epicentre of all carcasses discoveries so far.
Today 8 new discoveries were made taking the overall count to 44 elephants. The count is still ongoing.
According to Department of Wildlife and National Parks, the elephants are dying from 'unknown causes'. There has been speculation that the cause of death could be poisoning or anthrax. But some experts have ruled anthrax out.
Regional wildlife coordinator, Dimakatso Ntshebe today stated that postmortem results are expected soon but did not give the exact date.
Ntshebe said the deaths are caused by an unknown pathogen. " Its doubtful if the elephants have been poisoned. Because if its poisoning it would affect other species in the area not just elephants. The poison would kill scanvengers like jackals and others which are feeding on carcasses. However we are not ruling anything out until the results are out' he said
DWNP reiterated its plea to members of the public not to eat meat from the carcasses as the cause of death is unknown and potentially a health hazard.

OKavango Elephants death toll today 54
The death toll in the Okavango panhandle elephants deaths due to 'unknown causes' have increased to 54. Yesterday the number was 50 and 48 on Tuesday.
Regional wildlife coordinator, Dimakatso Ntshebe told Botswana Safari News that a team of doctors from Department of Veterinary Services and Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) are now in Seronga to take more tests from the carcasses. Initial tests were taken and submitted to National veterinary Lab on May 14.
Information gathered by this publication is that postmortem results take 10 to 14 days to be ready.

Okavango elephants mortalities reach 60
Total of 60 elephants have died in the Okavango panhandle mysterious elephants deaths. Regional wildlife coordinator Dimakatso Ntshebe said the latest case was recorded on Sunday.
He said however the number of dying elephants has eventualy gone down after initial surge in the first days.
Ntshebe revealed that they are still waiting for postmortem results from veterinary Lab.
