Hi ak, also ganz so pessimistisch muss man es auch nicht wieder sehen, im SA-Forum werden von den Profis diverse Alternativen vorgeschlagen, behalte das im Auge. Du musst eben damit rechnen, dass du deine Tour den Möglichkeiten wirst anpassen müssen. Irgendetwas wird sicher gehen, zumal die Katastrophenberichte wahrscheinlich auch einige Leute abschrecken werden. Du bist ja zuerst in Chobe und kannst dich vor Ort entscheiden. 1 Woche Chobe ist genauso schön als 1/2 dort und in Moremi. Die Elefanten schauen überall gleich aus. Die Teerstraßen sollten, außer Beschädigungen, wohl kein Problem sein.

Mal wieder was Aktuelles zu Moremi GR, speziell Third Bridge, in der 4x4 Community von Tara (Botswana Footprints):Ich schau mir das in 3 Wochen dann mal an.....oder auch nicht

Savuti/Chobe scheinen laut Berichten in der Community gut befahrbar zu sein. Zum CKGR gibt es herrliche Fotos!

Bericht eines Kollegen, der letzte Woche dort war (als Guide):
- Khwai North Gate bis auf weiteres nicht zugänglich (theoretisch schon, aber man muss durch mehr als 1m tiefes Wasser). Von dort kommt man sowieso nirgendwo hin, Strecken nach Xakanaka oder South Gate sind nicht möglich.
- 3rd Bridge ist nicht zugänglich und nachdem was er gehört hat, wird das mit der Fertigstellung der Brücke vorläufig nichts, das könnte noch Wochen bis Monate dauern. Und wenn sie nicht bis vor der Flut fertig werden, dann könnte es sehr lange dauern...
- South Gate ist erreichbar, die Strecke von dort nach Xakanaka ebenfalls, dauert aber derzeit immernoch lange.
- Savuti - Mababe ist fahrbar, hat aber immernoch einige heikle Wasserdurchquerungen. In Savuti ist speziell um den Marsh immernoch viel nicht zugänglich. Sollte jetzt alles aber langsam austrocknen.
- Savuti/Linyati sind vergleichsweise gut zugänglich aus dem Norden

Bericht unseres Guides, der uns im August begleiten wird von gestern:

- Moremi closed - hat er wohl noch nie erlebt
- Third Bridge wurde aus unserer Planung für August gestrichen

Eben hat mir Face aus Khwai Village geschrieben - und seine Aussagen decken sich mit dem, was ich auf den Webcams sehe. Der Kavango bei Rundu hat weniger Wasser als letztes Jahr um diese Zeit, d.h. es hat nicht so viel geregnet im Westen von Angola. Dafür aber im Osten, der Chobe steigt momentan stündlich und ich vermute einfach mal, dass es beim Zambezi ähnlich ist (die letzte Statistik, die ich gesehen habe, ist schon zwei Wochen her, aber da war schon ein starker Anstieg zu verzeichnen).

"It has not rained for a long time. The water is dropping in the river channels and drying out in some roads almost daily. A friend who works in Department of Environmental Affairs told me that it hasnt rained a lot as most of us predicted in South-western Angola. Basically there is no big floods to expect from Okavango Delta floods."

You would by now you would all be aware of the unusually high levels of water in and around among other places Moremi Game Reserve.
We have been monitoring the water levels in the key areas for some time now and it has prompted me to offer the following advice as it will result in come itinerary changes until the game drive roads dry out …if they dry out.
Our hope was that the flooding is shallow and that evaporation would take care of the problem and dry out some of the main roads.
However we need to plan for the fact that even a medium flood in the delta which would arrive in May / June could compound the problem ….and the result could be that some of the roads may never dry up this season.

Makgadikgadi and CKGR
Nxai Pan and CKGR and dry and easily drivable.
The Makgadikgadi area around Njuca Hills is easily drivable but further south towards the pans it’s still very wet ( but shallow ) and I trust this will dry out in the next month or two.

Moremi
There is significant water on the road between South gate and 3rd Bridge and Xakanaxa and 3rd Bridge. There is a risk that this water stays for the season.
Southgate to Xakanaxa is easily drivable.
South gate to Khwai is easily drivable.
There is deep water crossings between Khwai Guest House and the white concrete bridge - hindering progress to Savuti HOWEVER there is a perfectly drivable route from Khwai North gate towards Sankuyo Village to the east and then north to Mababe Village and Savuti.
There is a deep water crossing on the main road just south of Mababe Village but there is a short detour around it.
North of Khwai Village the main gravel road is dry to Savuti.

The main purpose of this notice is to inform you that most places are accessible BUT the game drive areas are restricted.
