Wir sind gestern in Kasane angekommen und sind folgende Strecke gefahren:
Maun - South Gate - North Gate - Savuti - Kasane

Die Strecke war sehr gut zu fahren:
Maun bis South Gate hatte kein Wasser. Von South Gate aus war Xini Lagoon gut erreichbar...hatte lediglich ein paar Pfützen. Black Pools ist laut DWNP nicht erreichbar.

South Gate bis North Gate war auch kein Problem - ebenfalls ein paar Pfützen jedoch keine tiefen Stellen. Das befahrbare Gebiet um North Gate war etwas eingeschränkt. Wir konnten trotzdem einige schöne Strecken befahren und hatten ganz schöne Sichtungen.

North Gate bis Mababe hatte nur eine etwas tiefere Wasserquerung (ca. 50 - 60 cm). Unbedingt am Gate fragen welche Strecke gut befahrbar ist.

Mababe bis Savuti (Sandridge Road) wieder kein Problem.

Evtl. helfen diese Informationen einigen von euch etwas weiter.

Wir haben am Ende unserer Reise im Juni 3 Nächte Khwai GH (Anfahrt aus Maun) und 3 Nächte Tented Camp in Third Bridge (von dort wieder nach Maun) gebucht. Wir haben heute dazu folgende Information erhalten:

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

You would by now you would all be aware of the unusually high levels of water in and around among other places Moremi Game Reserve.
We have been monitoring the water levels in the key areas for some time now and it has prompted me to offer the following advice as it will result in come itinerary changes until the game drive roads dry out …if they dry out.

My hope was that the flooding is shallow and that evaporation would take care of the problem and dry out some of the main roads.
However we need to plan for the fact that even a medium flood in the delta which would arrive in May / June could compound the problem ….and the result could be that some of the roads may never dry up this season.

Makgadikgadi and CKGR
Nxai pan and CKGR and dry and easily drivable.
The Makgadikgadi area around Njuca Hills is easily drivable but further south towards the pans it’s still very wet ( but shallow ) and I trust this will dry out in the next month or two.

Moremi
There is significant water on the road between South gate and 3rd Bridge and Xakanaxa and 3rd Bridge. There is a risk that this water stays for the season.
Southgate to Xakanaxa is easily drivable.
South gate to Khwai is easily drivable.
There is deep water crossings between Khwai Guest House and the white concrete bridge - hindering progress to Savuti HOWEVER there is a perfectly drivable route from Khwai North gate towards Sankuyo Village to the east and then north to Mababe Village and Savuti.
There is a deep water crossing on the main road just south of Mababe Village but there is a short detour around it.
North of Khwai Village the main gravel road is dry to Savuti.

The main purpose of this notice is to inform you that most places are accessible BUT the game drive areas are restricted.
Please advise all clients booked and confirmed of this and our office will be contacting you in this regard with alternatives.


Weiß jemand, wie man die Formulierung "significant water" verstehen muss? Wir möchten da lieber nichts riskieren.

Hallo, significant ist im Deutschen gleich signifikant, d.h. ungefaehr "nicht unerheblich" oder "deutlich spürbar". Aus dem Text geht hervor, dass in dieser Saison, schätze bis Juli, sich die Situation nicht entspannen wird. Ich würde kurz vor Eurem Start noch einmal nachfragen.

Es hat im April erneut einige Regenfälle gegeben, in Maun wird von jetzt über 1000mm in dieser Saison 16/17 gesprochen.
Die Route Francistown - Nata - Gweta ist immernoch überschwemmt und ist nach Regenfälle häufig zeitweise gesperrt.

Im Gegensatz dazu ist die Route nach Kubu Island tatsächlich wieder befahrbar und wurde auch schon befahren, auch wenn es weiterhin nicht empfohlen wird.

3rd Bridge bleibt bis auf weiteres geschlossen, es wird nach anderen (trockenen) Wegen gesucht und Reparaturarbeiten der Brücke sind weiterhin im Gange.

Please note that the detour is only 2.4 km from the Bodumatau junction to the Third Bridge main road. There will be another detour just before First Bridge which is also well signaged to avoid driving through water.

Ein Up-Date zur Flut im Delta:

Wie schon länger zu beobachten (z.B. auf der Webcam bei Rundu) hat der Okavango dieses Jahr im Oberlauf wenig Wasser, d.h. die Flut im Delta ist schwächer als in den letzten Jahren.
