Mapungubwe National Park experiences heavy rains

Date: 10th March 2014

In the last week, like most parts of the country, Mapungubwe National Park and World Heritage Site (MNP&WH) experienced heavy rains, which could result in floods.

The Limpopo River is at full capacity but thus far all the facilities and roads within the park are operational. The temporary Wiepe bridge on the R572 road between the Park and the town of Musina is flooded and therefore offers no access.

According to Divhani Maremba, Communications Manager for the MNP&WH “more rain is expected over the next two days and we are on high alert to ensure the safety of everyone in the park”.
