VISITORS from countries that have not reciprocated Namibia’s visa exemption will be issued visas upon arrival in Namibia for an applicable fee, in addition to online visa applications, starting from April 2025.
This was announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security. The ministry revealed that, regarding the non-reciprocating countries, the Cabinet approved a visa fee of N$1600 for countries that are not members of the African Union (AU), while AU members will be expected to pay N$1200. The ministry said that these fees are subject to annual review.
This decision follows the Ministry of Home Affairs’ announcement that the Cabinet has authorised the introduction of an entry visa requirement for countries that have not reciprocated the favourable treatment Namibia grants their nationals.
The affected countries are Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Moldova, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Uzbekistan.
"In recent years, the Republic of Namibia, through the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, has extended gestures of goodwill and favourable treatment to nationals of various countries. However, despite these efforts, certain nations have not reciprocated. In light of this disparity, the government has deemed it necessary to implement a visa requirement to ensure parity and fairness in diplomatic interactions," Etienne Maritz, the Ministry of Home Affairs' Executive Director, explained.
Maritz assured that this measure is not intended to hinder legitimate travel but to uphold the principle of reciprocity in international relations. He added that the implementation of the visa requirements highlights the government's determination to ensure that the interests and rights of Namibian citizens are respected and protected on the global stage.
